Puzzle Codes to Crack

base64 usually ends with 0, 1, or 2 = signs

I strongly suggest piping to either "file" or "hexdump". Dumping random binary
data in your terminal isn't cool.

Tools

  • hashcat
  • xxd
  • base64
  • openssl enc
  • hd
  • gunzip
  • xz
  • xfreerdp is for RDP
  • ... What else?

Hashcat searching

When trying to find a hash, search for it.
The format is hashcat -m <somenumber> where <somenumber> is the type of hash

hashcat --help | grep AS-REP gives 18200

Stuff to look up

  • Converting octal to decimal (or binary)

MP3 Challenge Cipher

First, convert the MP3 file to a WAV file.

ffmpeg -i silly-stderr-challenge.mp3 silly-stderr-challenge.wav
Turn into spectogram with FFMPEG or sox.
sox silly-stderr-challenge.wav -n spectrogram

The number of octets: 8 + 83 + 8
The first 8 bits: We use them to find the vertical position of the bits.
@arthvadrr We already use netpbm to convert to pgm. We have pgmtopbm.
@TrshPuppy Each letter is 800/99-ish pixels high.
